An Address Written Into the Skyline
There are homes, and then there are landmarks that homes are measured against — Godrej Planet belongs firmly to the latter. Located on a plot of 9-acre (3.6 ha) at Mahalaxmi, Mumbai, the tower stands 181 m (594 ft) tall and is 51 floors high. Only 5% of the total land was used to build the skyscraper, resulting in extensive open space, a deliberate act of restraint that turned what could have been a dense high-rise into a residence surrounded by air, light, and greenery.
The architecture itself carries a certain quiet confidence. Crafted by Singapore-based DP Architects and Mumbai-based JP Parekh, this 50-storeyed, five-tower skyscraper enjoys the status of a monumental landmark. Every apartment was conceived to look outward rather than inward — with spectacular 360 degree views from all residences, Planet Godrej overlooks the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, the exquisite Haji Ali Mosque and the most loved Arabian Sea. Few addresses in the city can claim to hold the racecourse, a centuries-old mosque, and the open sea within a single frame of glass.
The recognition that followed was not incidental. Being one of the revolutionary projects by Godrej Properties and one of the tallest towers of India, Planet Godrej has won several awards, including the Best Residential Project in Western India category at the CNBC AWAAZ CRISIL CREDAI Real Estate Awards 09. It also earned the Pinnacle Award, 2006 by ZEE Business for being the best upcoming real estate project in India, cementing its place among the city's most storied residential developments well before its towers were complete.
Today, Godrej Planet stands ready and lived-in. The project was completed in August 2011, and its five towers now house a settled, established community — a rare offering in South Mumbai where such scale and stature seldom come to market a second time.
